Overview

    Besakih Temple, known as Pura Besakih, is Bali’s largest and holiest temple, often referred to as the Mother Temple. Located on the slopes of Mount Agung, the highest volcano in Bali, this sprawling temple complex is a spiritual epicenter for the Balinese Hindu community. The temple dates back over a thousand years and consists of 23 separate but related temples, with the largest and most important being Pura Penataran Agung.
