Overview

Bangalore’s famous Lalbagh Botanical Garden is With a history as rich as the soil it’s planted on, Lalbagh isn’t just a garden—it’s a 240-acre celebration of flora, fauna, and fantastic times.

First things first, let’s talk about its birth story. Lalbagh was the brainchild of Hyder Ali, who laid its verdant foundation in 1760. Later, his son Tipu Sultan, the tiger of Mysore, added his touch, expanding the garden and bringing in exotic plants from around the globe. Imagine Tipu Sultan as the ultimate botanist-king, orchestrating a botanical fiesta that’s still going strong over 250 years later.

One of the garden’s best part is the iconic Glass House. A Victorian-style greenhouse that’s part Hogwarts and part botanical wonderland. It’s where Lalbagh hosts its bi-annual flower shows, which are basically nature’s version of a red carpet event. Flowers of every imaginable hue, size, and fragrance strut their stuff, turning the Glass House into a technicolor dream.
