Overview

A major river that flows through Bangkok into the Gulf. It translates to “River of Kings” and is very picturesque as a view from the skyline. Taking the Chao Phraya River makes multiple stops at Wat Arun, Wat Pho, the flower markets, IconSiam mall and many small markets. This is a different way to skip Bangkok traffic and take a serene tour through the busy city. The river also offers cruises such as the Meridian Dinner Cruise, the Chao Phraya Princess Dinner Cruise, and much more. The Chao Phraya is particularly evocative because of this contrast between serene and tumultuous, contemporary, conventional, spiritual and secular too. This river is surely in the list of the top 5 things to check out in Bangkok! Visitors come here to earn merit by leaving many fish or by giving the school of agitated catfish some food like bread crumbs. One of the most enjoyable places to spend a morning is the Pak Khlong Flower Bazaar, a vibrant, lively oriental bazaar. Another alternative are the Chao Phraya "Tourist Boats," which provide unlimited voyages to the nine well-known piers for a set price (service hours are daily from 9.30am to 3pm). If you want greater comfort and to be directed to specific websites, and you intend to hop on and off frequently during the day, then that's not a bad deal. But keep in mind that although residents utilize the public lines, they run every 30 minutes, usually every 15 to 20 minutes. Hiring a long-tail boat (which typically includes journeys around the city's canals), going on a river cruise, or going on a dinner cruise are some more alternatives for exploring the river. Each offers a unique viewpoint on this intriguing story.
