Chilika Lake

    Chilika Lake, located in Odisha, near Bhubaneswar, is the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest in the world. Spanning over 1,100 square kilometers, this brackish water lagoon is renowned for its biodiversity, especially its birdlife. Chilika is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, making it a designated Ramsar Site and a haven for birdwatchers. Every winter, the lake attracts over a million migratory birds from as far as Siberia and the Caspian Sea. The lagoon also supports a vibrant fishing community and is dotted with picturesque islands like Nalabana and Kalijai, each with its unique charm and cultural significance.
