Overview

Valluvar Kottam, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a monument dedicated to the classical Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, author of the celebrated work "Tirukkural." Constructed in 1976, Valluvar Kottam stands as a tribute to Thiruvalluvar's contributions to Tamil literature and philosophy. The monument is designed in the shape of a chariot, symbolizing the chariot of wisdom, and features a 39-meter-high statue of Thiruvalluvar. One of the most striking features of Valluvar Kottam is the massive auditorium within the complex, which can accommodate around 4,000 people. This auditorium is often used for cultural events, exhibitions, and public meetings. The monument also includes an intricately carved replica of the Tamil Nadu temple chariot, adding to its architectural grandeur. The inscriptions of the 1,330 couplets of the "Tirukkural" on granite tablets around the monument make Valluvar Kottam not only a visual marvel but also an educational experience.
