The Mullayanagiri Peak is at a height of 1,930 metres above the sea level, making it the highest peak in the state of Karnataka. It is located in the Chikmagalur district and is a trekker’s haven. Mullayyanagiri trekking is a classy trek in-and-of itself since the activity is neither too difficult nor too simple, making it ideal for pro level hikers as well as beginners who are seeking to have a remarkable experience. The way up to the peak is an astonishing one, with the view of the verdant expanse of the sprawling hills and coffee estates that Chikmagalur is a home to.
The trek path is a splendid sight that takes you through dense woods, open meadows, and steep rocks with magnificent glimpses all around. You can also find a wide range of flora and fauna from the trek course along with various birds and butterflies, so that the nature photographers can have their time. In addition, the summit hosts a tiny temple in the honour of Lord Shiva which adds a touch of spirituality to the thrilling climb. Wrapped in the perpetual mist, the temple has a tranquil atmosphere which makes it a good hideout for anyone seeking some solitude and peace. Moreover, the summit offers breath-taking panoramic views when the sky’s colour is a combination of orange and pink, which is typically observed during the early mornings and late evenings.
After-monsoon i.e the months in between September and February is the right time to visit Mullayanagiri. The climate during this period is cool and pleasant with the surrounding areas making themselves comfortable with the monsoon feeding. The trekking paths become less prickly, and the summit is filled with calming wind breezes. Thus, Mullayyanagiri is not just a trek but an excellent opportunity to witness the flawless fertility and tranquillity of Chikmagalur. Away from the city’s distraction, one can experience peace away from city life and savour the delicate nature of the Western Ghats.
