Overview

The Nine Arches Bridge, popularly referred to as the "Bridge in the Sky," is a well-known sight in Sri Lanka that is located in the Ella area of the country's tiny mountains. Constructed in 1921 during the British colonial era, this architectural masterpiece is well-known for its incredible engineering and design. The bridge's constructors' inventiveness and skill are demonstrated by the fact that it is made completely of stone and cement rather than any steel.

The Nine Arches Bridge, which unites the towns of Ella and Demodara, is 24 metres tall and around 91 metres in length. Situated amidst verdant foliage and tea estates, this location has stunning vistas of the environs, rendering it a favorite destination for photography and exploration. Many come here specifically to witness the enthralling sight of a train crossing the bridge, planning their excursions to coincide with this moment.

From Ella town, there's a short, picturesque walk that leads to the Nine Arches Bridge and is well-signed and accessible. There are beautiful paths through deep forests and colourful tea gardens on the route to the bridge itself, making the trip there itself an experience. A must-see site for anybody visiting Sri Lanka, the Nine Arches Bridge is a representation of the island's natural beauty and cultural legacy, in addition to being a piece of architectural history.
