Spread over 12,40,771 square feet, the palace boasts 400 rooms, of which a significant portion is dedicated to the museum. The museum offers a fascinating journey through the history, art, and culture of the Scindia family and their reign. One of the most striking features of the palace is the Durbar Hall, a grand hall with a ceiling soaring 35 feet high and adorned with the world's heaviest chandeliers, each weighing 3.5 tons. These chandeliers, it is said, were tested by hanging eight elephants from the ceiling to ensure it could bear their weight.
The museum’s galleries are filled with an eclectic collection of artifacts, including royal costumes, weapons, and manuscripts. One of the highlights is the silver train with crystal wagons that was used to serve drinks and cigars during royal banquets. The Italian furniture, Persian carpets, and Belgian cut-glass furniture add to the museum’s splendor, making it a treasure trove of royal memorabilia.
