Matanga Hill in Hampi is well known for its participation in the Ramayana and other mythological scripts and is home to the Veerabhadra Temple. This place is open to visitors throughout the day and there are no specific timings. There are no tour operators that conduct trekking sessions in this place but they can be visited in groups or solo to view the beautiful sunrise that shines bright and makes Hampi look way prettier. This is a 30-minute trek that is moderately difficult for beginners and the trek trail is tricky. Well, this shouldn’t stop you from trekking, just slip on a comfortable pair of sneakers, grab a torch, and start the trail. Things might be easy to read but here is a true review, all beginners might find the terrain easy at the start and be enthusiastic but as the elevation starts the energy levels drop down. So start and continue with the same spirit and speed never slow down or speed up, this will keep you at the constant phase of trekking.
There are two routes to reach the top, while locals will suggest the easiest way possible i.e., through the Kadale Kalu Ganesh Temple. The other route is more adventurous and we recommend you take this route, through the Hampi Bazar. This route will make you crawl and climb through the terrains along with our closely related species! Monkeys! This path is rocky terrain and also abandoned shrines, you should check these with a lot of courage! After you've reached the summit, you can go around the hill in all directions to see the vistas of Hampi. The Tungabhadra River, on the other hand, passes through the town. The Virupaksha Temple looms on the horizon. Additionally, you can observe the Achuta Temple complex, deserted bazaars, and the scenery of Hampi, which is covered in rocks.
