Most of us would love to have these stone doors at home, providing us with a perfect private space! These stone doors are located within the premises of the Royal Enclosure area from the Queen’s Bath. This spot is usually visited by cycling so you can park your bicycle near the stone doors and explore the area. The amazing fact about these doors is that they are positioned in places where there are no entrances or exits. The purpose of the doors is not known to date but the architect speaks aloud. And the way these doors are placed looks like someone has pushed the doors from an angle. The decor on the doors looks similar to that of ancient wooden design but on a ‘stone’ which also narrates the difficulty of sculpturing them.
Though the purpose is unknown legends assume that these doors were placed at the Royal Enclosure to protect the Empire. This fortified area is where the royal family of Vijayanagar lived, the land is spread over 59,000 square meters with three main entrances with guards and double-wall protection. Among the three entrances, two are at the northern side while one is at the west side of the Royal enclosure. These stone doors are positioned behind robust walls and guarded by sentinels.
The entire door is sculpted using a single boulder which is considered a monolith (a geological element featuring a single big rock) door. There are some locks and bolts crafted with stone followed by protruding lotus buds at the junctions. Considering the size and the weight of this structure requires an elephant to lift and move in those days but now technologies have come to place them anywhere within the locality. This is the initial point to enter the Royal Enclosure or mud path that leads to the Zenana Enclosure via the Hazara Rama Temple. Currently, the doors lie on the ground, allowing algae to grow on them.
