Overview

    Tharpa Choling Monastery, located in Kalimpong, West Bengal, is one of the oldest Gelugpa sect monasteries in the region. Established in 1912 by Domo Geshe Rinpoche, it stands as a significant center for Tibetan Buddhism and cultural heritage. The monastery is perched on Tirpai Hill, offering visitors not only a rich spiritual experience but also impressive views of the surrounding landscape. The monastery is known for its traditional Tibetan architecture, vibrant murals, and religious artifacts. Inside, one can find a large statue of Maitreya Buddha, as well as various thangkas (Tibetan Buddhist paintings on cotton or silk). Tharpa Choling Monastery serves as a hub for religious study and meditation, attracting monks and practitioners from across the region.
