Padmanabhapuram Palace

    Padmanabhapuram Palace, located in the town of Padmanabhapuram in Tamil Nadu, is a stunning example of traditional Kerala architecture and a significant historical landmark. Built in the 16th century by the rulers of the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom, the palace is renowned for its intricate woodwork, murals, and antiques. It served as the administrative and residential quarters of the Travancore kings until the capital was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram in the late 18th century.

The palace complex, set within a sprawling 6.5-acre area, comprises several structures, each showcasing the craftsmanship and architectural brilliance of the era. Key highlights include the Mantrasala (King’s Council Chamber), known for its exquisite carved wooden ceiling, the Thai Kottaram (Mother’s Palace), the oldest part of the complex, and the Natakasala (Hall of Performance), featuring a polished black floor made of a unique combination of materials. The palace also houses a museum displaying royal artifacts, including furniture, weapons, and other historical items.
