Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, previously Model Floriculture Center, is located in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, Srinagar. Spread over an area of 74 acres, it is the largest tulip garden in Asia. Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the tulip garden was opened in 2007 to promote floriculture and tourism in Kashmir. About 1.7 tulip buds were imported from Amsterdam’s Keukenhof Garden in various vibrant colors to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden. Apart from tulips, other flowering varieties like daffodils and hyacinths were also brought from Holland. There are about 73 varieties of tulips in the Garden.
The tulip garden is located at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range. Standing at the edge of colorful tulip rows with the majestic mountains in the background makes for a picture-perfect view, so don’t forget to take out your phones and cameras to capture Kashmir’s floral beauty. However, an important point to note is that the garden is open only during the spring when the tulip festival of Kashmir takes place.
