But it’s a long journey, spending days on your bike and travelling all the way to reach your ultimate destination can be overwhelming and suddenly you will start to question to life choices.

Pack your necessities first

There are two ways to reach Leh. One through Manali and one through Srinagar. The later one is advisable as it passes through Rohtang La, Sarchi and Upshi. The route also depends upon your capabilities and comfort. Downloading offline maps is one the best way to navigate as getting an internet connection is quite difficult.

AMS refers to Acute Mountain Sickness. You need to build a strong metabolism and body strength to able to travel. Acclimatizing with the weather before travelling up ahead is the necessary as the Government made it mandatory for all tourist to spend at least 2 days to acclimatize.

Hydration is key as you are 3000 meters above sea level at Leh. Once you travel to Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso, it will drain out your energy. So have ample amount of water and energy drinks at all times. If you find any refreshing spots during your ride, stop for a while and fill out your bottles.

Take permits and tickets that are necessary

In order to travel around Leh, One needs to get a Inner Line Permit (ILP). This can be obtained at the DC office in Leh. The permit is valid for a maximum of 7 days (multiple entry). It is important to make photocopies as you will need to leave one at each military post.

In addition, it is essential to carry all the necessary documents, including a valid driving license, vehicle registration certificate, and insurance papers. It is advisable to keep the records in a waterproof bag or cover to protect them from the rain.

You can find ATM’s at Leh but it is advisable to carry cash as most the places either have no ATM or will not accept UPI/Online payments on the spot. If you can book your activities in advance, you just saved a lot of time!

Gloves, Helmet with clean visor, Knee pads and riding/trekking shoes will protect you from any kind of unfortunate incidents. If you are riding with a pillion, make sure you have a extra helmet with protective gear.

Always carry an extra fuel tank as it is quite difficult to find a petrol station nearby. A puncture kit and other accessories will always come in handy.
