Laitlum Canyon

    If you're looking for a slice of paradise, Laitlum Canyon is your go-to. Based in the East Khasi Hills, visitors use this as an escape, away from the city life, to the most scenic views you would find. Unlike more commercialized tourist spots, Laitlum Canyon offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can enjoy solitude and the soothing sounds of nature.

The best time to visit Laitlum Canyon would be during monsoon, from June to October. Yes, the slight drizzle while hiking is the best part of it. Dew drops on the grasslands, Wildflowers spread out, Clouds poured so close to you is what we, in Backpackers United, refer to as heaven!

It is advised to carry comfortable walking shoes, jackets and maybe a picnic basket too! Do be careful of the edges of the hill as Laitlum translates to “end of the hills” which is literally the end to these scenic hills and one slip and you’d be rolling down in the clouds!

If you’re in Shillong, Laitlum Canyon is a must visit. It is indeed a golden ticket to heaven on earth!
