Overview

Merlion Park, situated at One Fullerton near the bustling Marina Bay, Merlion Park is home to Singapore’s iconic Merlion statue, a creature with a lion's head and a fish's body that embodies the city’s origins as a fishing village and its original name, Singapura, meaning "Lion City." Standing at 8.6 meters tall and weighing a hefty 70 tons, the Merlion statue is a majestic figure spouting water from its mouth into Marina Bay. Crafted by the late Singaporean sculptor Lim Nang Seng, this half-fish, half-lion mascot was unveiled on September 15, 1972, by then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. It quickly became a national symbol and a must-see for visitors. With the stunning Marina Bay Sands and the futuristic architecture of Marina Bay in the background, Merlion Park is a photographer’s paradise. Whether you're snapping selfies or capturing panoramic views, every angle here is Instagram gold. As the sun sets, the area lights up, offering a magical view of the city skyline and the Merlion’s illuminated splendor. Did you know there's not just one but two Merlions at the park? The second, affectionately known as the "Merlion Cub," is a petite 2-meter version situated nearby. Perfect for those who want a closer and more manageable photo opportunity without the crowd! Originally positioned at the mouth of the Singapore River, the Merlion statue was relocated to its current spot in 2002 to allow better visibility and access. The move was a grand affair, involving a meticulous process to transport the colossal statue without a scratch! Merlion Park isn’t just about taking pictures. It's a place where you can relax by the waterfront, enjoy the cool breeze, and watch the boats glide by. Street performers and snack vendors add to the lively atmosphere, making it a great spot to soak in the local vibe. - Visit early morning or late evening to avoid the crowd. - Bring a wide-angle lens for those breathtaking shots of the Merlion with the Marina Bay backdrop. - Don’t forget to explore the nearby attractions like the Esplanade and the Helix Bridge for a full Marina Bay experience. So next time you’re in Singapore, make sure to drop by Merlion Park—a quirky mix of history, culture, and stunning city views in one iconic location!
