Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple

    Located in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district, the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple, also called the Brihadeeswarar Temple of Gangaikonda Cholapuram, is a magnificent example of Chola architecture. Constructed in the eleventh century, the temple honours Rajendra Chola I's conquest of the Ganges River and his military expeditions throughout northern India. Representing the splendour of the Chola empire, it is an architectural masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
