Itinerary

Day 1

Paro Airport - Thimphu

After completing immigration formalities at Paro Airport, you'll meet your Bhutanese guide who will accompany you on the transfer to Bhutan's capital, Thimphu.

On the way, stop at Chuzom, where the Thimphu (Wang Chhu) and Paro (Pa Chhu) rivers converge. Here, you'll see three unique stupas built in Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Nepalese styles.

Upon arriving in Thimphu, check-in at your hotel. The evening is free for leisure activities.

Day 2

Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, start your day with a city tour of Thimphu.

Visit Kuensel Phodrang, home to the massive Buddha Dordenma Statue, which offers breathtaking views of Thimphu town.

Continue to the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in 1974 to honor the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, where you’ll see people circumambulating and offering prayers.

Explore the Folk Heritage Museum, a traditional house that provides insights into Bhutanese rural life and artifacts.

Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Thimphu.

Stop by the Motithang Takin Reserve, where you can see the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal.

In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, known as the Fortress of the Glorious Religion, which houses some government offices, His Majesty’s secretariat, and the central monk body.

Day 3

Thimphu - Punakha / Wangdue Sightseeing

After breakfast, begin your journey to Punakha.

Pause at Dochula Pass (altitude 3,100 meters), where you'll see the 108 Druk Wangyal Stupas.

Continue driving to Punakha / Wangdue, and upon arrival, visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility. It’s a short hike of about 30-45 minutes.

Later, visit the impressive Punakha Dzong, situated at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers.

Afterward, check-in at your hotel, with the evening free for leisure.

Day 4

Punakha / Wangdue - Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, drive to Paro.

On the way, stop at the Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi, Bhutan’s first botanical park.

Continue driving to Paro, making another stop at the Immigration Check Point in Hongtsho Village to return the permit stamped earlier.

Visit Tamchog Lhakhang, a 13th-century temple built by Thangthong Gyalpo, also known as the Iron Bridge Builder, located between Thimphu and Paro.

Upon arrival in Paro, visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower overlooking the Paro Valley, now a national museum.

Next, explore Paro Rimpung Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels, built in 1646 during the time of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Walk down to Nemi Zam Bridge, a traditional covered cantilever bridge connecting Paro town to the Dzong.

Day 5

Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, embark on a hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched at an altitude of 3,100 meters in the Upper Paro Valley.

According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery. The hike, which takes about 5-6 hours round trip, can be challenging with steep inclines and stairs.

On the return, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples.
