Itinerary

Day 1

Paro Airport to Thimphu

Upon completing the immigration formalities at Paro Airport, you will meet your Bhutanese guide who will assist you in transferring to Bhutan's capital city, Thimphu.

During the journey, make a stop at Chuzom, where the Thimphu (Wang Chhu) and Paro (Pa Chhu) rivers meet. Here, you can see three distinct stupas built in Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Nepalese styles.

Once in Thimphu, check into your hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to spend at leisure.

Enjoy an overnight stay at your hotel in Thimphu.

Day 2

Thimphu Sightseeing

Begin your day with breakfast before setting out to explore Thimphu City.

Visit the Kuensel Phodrang, home to the massive Buddha Dordenma statue, which offers stunning views of Thimphu.

Continue to the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa constructed in 1974 in memory of the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, and frequented by locals for prayer.

Explore the Folk Heritage Museum, which provides insights into traditional Bhutanese life through its display of rural artifacts.

Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, one of Thimphu's oldest temples, and then head to the Motithang Takin Reserve, dedicated to Bhutan's national animal, the Takin.

In the evening, visit the Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress that houses some government offices, His Majesty's secretariat, and the central monk body.

Day 3

Thimphu to Punakha/Wangdue Sightseeing and Return

After breakfast, depart for Punakha, stopping at the Dochula Pass, which sits at 3,100 meters above sea level.

The pass is renowned for its 108 Druk Wangyal Stupas.

Continue driving to Punakha/Wangdue, where you'll visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility, after a short hike of 30-45 minutes.

Next, explore Punakha Dzong, beautifully located at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers.

In the evening, return to Thimphu for leisure time.

Day 4

Thimphu to Paro Sightseeing

Following breakfast, drive to Paro, stopping en route at Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple dating back to the 13th century, built by Thangthong Gyalpo, the Iron Bridge Builder.

Continue to Paro and visit the Paro Rimpung Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels, which was constructed in 1646 during the time of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Explore Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower overlooking the Paro Valley that has been converted into a national museum.

Cross the traditionally covered cantilever Nemi Zam Bridge, which connects Paro town to the Dzong.

Visit Kyichu Lakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples.

Check into your hotel in Paro and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Day 5

Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, embark on a hike to the renowned Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest), located at an altitude of 3,100 meters in the Upper Paro Valley.

According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery.

The hike is steep and takes about 5-6 hours to complete; it is not recommended for small children or the elderly due to its challenging nature.

On your way back, drive past Drukgyel Dzong, a 17th-century monastery built by Tenzin Drukdra to commemorate Bhutanese victories over Tibetan invaders. Although the Dzong is currently in ruins, renovation efforts are underway.

The rest of the evening is free for leisure.

Departure
