Upon arrival at NJP Railway Station or IXB Airport, you'll be driven to Phuentsholing, a bustling border town in Southern Bhutan. (Distance: 170 kms. / Driving Time: 5 hrs. / Altitude of Phuentsholing: 293 mts.)
Phuentsholing is a vibrant commercial center and the gateway to Bhutan.
Once you arrive, you'll be welcomed by your Bhutanese guide, and you'll have the opportunity to photograph the grand, decorative gate that marks your entry into Bhutan.
Check-in at your hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening.

Day 2Phuentsholing to Thimphu
Phuentsholing to Thimphu

You'll then proceed to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, situated at an altitude of 7,710 feet.
En route, you'll stop at Kharbandi Goemba, a monastery founded in 1967 by the Royal Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choden.
The monastery offers a beautiful view of Phuentsholing and the surrounding plains and features paintings depicting the life of Buddha and statues of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and Guru Rinpoche.
Continue your journey as the plains give way to foothills and eventually to the towering Himalayan slopes.
Upon arrival in Thimphu, check into your hotel. The evening is yours to explore or relax.

Next, visit Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Thimphu, followed by a trip to Motithang Takin Reserve, where you can see the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal.

The pass is famous for its 108 Druk Wangyal Stupas.
Continue your journey to Punakha/Wangdue and visit Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility, which involves a short hike of about 30-45 minutes.
Next, visit Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers.
Afterward, check into your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Visit Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple built in the 13th century by Thangthong Gyalpo, known for constructing iron bridges.
Upon arrival in Paro, visit Ta Dzong, a historic watchtower turned national museum, and Paro Rimpung Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels, built in 1646.
Walk down to Nemi Zam Bridge, a traditional covered cantilever bridge connecting Paro town to the Dzong.

According to the legend, Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress and meditated at the monastery.
The hike to the monastery is steep and can take about 5-6 hours to complete, making it challenging for small children and the elderly.
On the way back, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan.
