The drive takes about 3 hrs and 30 mins. Pahalgam is around 100 kilometers from Srinagar, and Aru Valley is 12 kilometers north.
Aru is considered the nicest valley and hamlet in Kashmir. This town has remained the base camp for several remarkable treks, including the Tarsar Marsar Trek.
While going towards Aru, you will come across the gorgeous Kashmir valley. Before reaching Pahalgam, the ride takes the NH1 Highway and passes by the Lidder River.
You will be driving past Pahalgam. You'll turn left towards Aru, and it's a simple uphill drive that leads to the lovely Lidder River that flows from Tarsar Lake, which you'll visit during the trek.
At Aru, our campsite will be prepared to greet you with a welcome drink. You will meet your trek lead there, who will provide an overview of your walk and travels ahead.
Around 7:00 PM, you will be served dinner in the heart of this wonderful valley.
The grade for the day is easy, although there is a long walk of about 11 kilometers. Only the first 30 minutes involve a slow ascent into the jungle.
The trek's course begins in the jungle and runs for around 5 kilometers. The jungle is dense in a few places and opens up to reveal shepherd homes and deep canyons at a distance to the left.
The jungle is teeming with birds, and the trail is frequently used by shepherds and ponymen.
After the jungle hike, the trail leads to a huge, wavy grassland. The meadow is vast, with a few river crossings.
Amid this meadow walk, you will be walking alongside the river Lidder. The river view is going to be absolutely beautiful. It’s indeed going to be a really nice view.
The meadow grass extends only to the riverbank. You can unwind and recuperate at any of these eye-catching stops along the road.
The Lidder River will accompany you on your journey till you reach Tarsar Lake.
After wandering for a while, you will notice a triangular wooden cabin on your left. Cross the bridge that leads to the meadow surrounding the cabin.
You will see that your campsite is ready for you. You will be greeted with evening food and beverages.
This campsite is known as Lidderwat.
The day begins with an ascent to a higher elevation, from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Lidderwat Valley.
The grade for the day is easy. Shortly after your first rise, the trail connects with the woodland. You will travel through the bush, parallel to the Lidder River.
The track eventually opens up to large areas of meadow walk. You'll have to cross the river on a log bridge. The valley is abundant with wildflowers and grass.
You will get to a Homwas where the river meets the meadow; relax and enjoy the surrounding scenery. On your way, you'll see shepherd houses and a clump of Silver Birch.
A boulder portion can be found just before reaching Shekwas. Take caution with your steps.
You will need to proceed with caution through this part because the boulders are large and often wet due to the river that flows beneath.
The overnight campground is located immediately following the boulder portion.
After breakfast, you'll be heading towards Tarsar Lake. The gradient for the day is moderate. The boulder and rocky segment take up the majority of the trail. You will be strolling on the boulders and the narrow trails between them.
The river runs beside you to your right. The boulder section nearly ends at the river crossing. The bride is of wood and thin, but the crossing is short.
The trail then ascends gradually until you reach the shepherd's house. The family usually welcomes the trekkers. Shepherds wander this area with their flocks.
The track then proceeds in a series of modest ascents and descents. The trek through the meadow is surrounded by mountains.
Tarsar Lake is the highest point you'll reach this day.
When the meadows end, you'll walk towards Kashmir's breathtaking alpine lake. Tarsar Lake is almond-shaped and one of Kashmir's most beautiful lakes.
You will be ecstatic to see this lake as it is so captivating that you will not be able to stop yourself from crowding around it the very instant you notice it.
The lake is so well-known that the walk is frequently referred to as the Tarsar Lake walk.
The campsite will be ready for an overnight stay.
The gradient for the day is moderate. The trail begins with a steep ascent for almost an hour to the Tarsar Pass.
The ridge runs parallel to the lake, taking you to the other side of Tarsar Valley. When you reach the top of the ridge, you may enjoy a breathtaking view of Tarsar Lake.
All of the photos you've seen of Tarsar Lake with a wider view were taken from this vantage point.
Most of the trekkers stop here to take pictures and to rest for a while.
The descent from this ridge is very sharp, so take care of your steps along the trail.
After you've descended, there's a boulder bridge before you enter a gorgeous meadow that connects Shekiwas to Sundersar.
This meadow is known as Silent Valley because of the calmness it offers. The region is dotted with little river streams and water ponds.
Following the meadow, a short ascent and descent will lead you to your Sundersar campsite.
Within half an hour of leaving your tent, you will arrive at Sundersar Lake. The lake is modest and beautiful, with small mountains encircling it on three sides.
The lake is glacial and round. To get to Marsar Lake, go around Sundersar Lake and climb a ridge.
It takes half an hour to ascend till you reach a flat ground, and within minutes you are gazing at the eternal Marsar Lake, which is situated in all its peace and beauty. The lake is large and appealing.
You will see this lake from the vantage point that provides a panoramic view of the entire lake. Enjoy the lake view and capture it in photos and films.
This is also the highest point of the entire walk. You will be standing at a height of around 4020 meters.
After seeing Marsar, you'll return via Sundersar Lake and descend to Homwas. The trail goes through the meadow and boulder area.
This is the final day of the trek. The trail is long, and you've already covered it in the first two days of your walk from Aru.
The track will continue to Aru via Lidderwat, following the same route.
