    Edakkal caves, situated in Wayanad, Kerala is an astonishing archeological site that truely narrates Kerala’s long history and one of its civilizations. These caves have gained their fame for the impressive ancient rock art which experts confirm that they date back to nearly 6000 BCE. They depict human figures, animals and symbolic artefacts.

The name ‘Edakkal’ means a stone that fits between two rocks and the naming probably refers to the large rock wedged between two other rocks making up the cave’s roof.
