Overview

    The Wayanad wildlife sanctuary which is otherwise known as the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is a dense tropical forest sanctuary that stretches over 344 square kilometres of area. This scenic sanctuary is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve, which hosts a variety of flora and fauna.

This sanctuary is very popular for having the largest population of elephants and also the residence of several other wildlife species including tigers, leopards, deer and various species of birds. Visitors can enjoy jeep safaris to the sanctuary which not only gives them an opportunity to explore and witness the beauty around but also provides a closer look at the forest inhabitants. The sanctuary also has several watch towers and observation points that provide a 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape.
