Andaman and Nicobar islands can get continental when it comes to food. Just like any other place it is a multi-cuisine island with options varying from Chinese, North Indian, South Indian, vegetarian and much more. As a coastal area, the seafood here is to die for!

Harvested fresh from the Bay of Bengal, it is deliciously cooked, deep fried, curried, as a side dish, to snack and what not!

The fish curry, the most consumed seafood in Andaman is one of the finest dish you can have! A mouth watering curry best eaten with a combination of steaming hot rice! Of course served with small rings of onion. The Macher Jhol is one such fish curry. Made with fresh white fillet fish filled with the Bengali spices of garlic ginger and coconut milk! There is also the cuttlefish curry, Fish Amritsari and much more.


Here’s another exciting and exotic dish. The lobster in this coastal land is another must try! Buttered and baked in a garlic smack or a lemon buttery sauce too, with a side of fresh veggies is one thing you can not miss if you’re a fan of seafood.

The Crab Masala, a spicy tomato based gravy, the most appetizing aroma and taste is an Indian delicacy served with Indian breads like Puris, Rotis or Parathas! How is different from India? Well, there is absolutely nothing that makes seafood better when it is fresh.


One can not talk about the Prawn curry or prawn roast! The coconut flavored prawn curry with hot rice is another heavenly dish. At a salty, beachy atmosphere this is what will make your day.

The Fish fry and the grilled fish is unlike a traditional delicacy. It’s got a different something to it, a sense of spice, tang and crisp! Yet another must try…

But as we all know, Vegetarian food is the safest to eat when travelling! There’s a huge option of vegetarian food for all you herbivore humans too! From Idli, dosa with amazing sambhar chutney to Dal, rotis, rice and the freshest veggies (as one of the island in Andaman is into Farming due to their nutrient rich soil). And since it’s the beach side, there are always munchies to have! Though they are comparatively limited, Vegetarian restaurants are now found throughout Andaman and Nicobar islands.

There are also a wide choice of fruit available in Andaman and Nicobar. Mangoes, Pineapples, Guavas, Jackfruits and mostly any citrus fruits too. Coconuts are available in large quantity too! Kokum is another commonly found berry in Andaman and Nicobar which is one of healthiest fruits there is to be!
