Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan, simply known as Wat Arun, is a Buddhist temple situated on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. Founded in 1656, it is named after the Hindu god Aruna, the charioteer of the Sun god. Being one of the most breathtaking temples in Bangkok, it is also a complicated structure and different from all the other temples in Bangkok. Nicknamed the Temple of the Dawn, the best time to visit it would be during the sunrise and sunset. It reflects sun rays, making the temple shine. The prang, or spire, is about 70 metres high and made out of tinted glass pieces and porcelain in careful patterns. There’s a steep pathway to climb the spire if you want. The view from the top is of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. The emerald Buddha was originally placed here before it was moved to a royal place. Respecting certain rules, such as wearing clothes that cover your shoulders and knees, is suggested. Apart from that, this is one of the finest places to explore Thai culture and have mind-blowing views of the temple along with the sunset.
