The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is a vast sanctuary situated in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. It is one of the most sprawling sanctuaries with rich biodiversity and on the whole consists of the most scenic landscapes. The sanctuary is spread over an area of about 492 square kilometres. The sanctuary is a paradise for nature and wildlife lovers. The sanctuary is named after the Bhadra River which flows through the lush green forest of the sanctuary.
It is a perfect habitat of wet deciduous forest, dry-open deciduous forests and scrub forest. Such a habitat is perfect for a variety of species of wild nature. The uniqueness and attractiveness of the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is, at first, the fauna. There are elephants, tigers, leopards, sloth bears, deer, and langurs. Additionally, the sanctuary is a habitat for more than 250 birds such as the Great Hornbill and Malabar pied hornbill, which are endangered. Furthermore, over the sanctuary, there are several ways to see its ‘wild’ nature, through the jeep safaris and trekking, perfectly illustrating the different habitats of varied fauna of the sanctuary.
Another possible way is the boating arranged at the Bhadra River to embrace the environment from another angle. The ideal months to visit Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary are from October to February. The sanctuary is closed to the public from June to September during the monsoon season due to heavy rains.
