Fateh Sagar Lake

Artificial Lake: Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake constructed in 1687 by Maharana Jai Singh. The lake was later reconstructed and extended by Maharana Fateh Singh, after whom it is named. The lake is oval in shape and covers an area of about 2.4 square kilometers.

Four Main Islands: The lake has four main islands, each offering unique attractions. The largest island is Nehru Park, a popular garden island with a boat-shaped restaurant and a small zoo. The second island houses a public park with water-jet fountains, while the third is home to the Udaipur Solar Observatory, considered one of the best in Asia. The fourth and smallest island contains a jet fountain.

Boating: Boating is one of the most popular activities at Fateh Sagar Lake. Visitors can choose from a variety of boat rides, including motorboats, paddleboats, and speedboats. Boating provides a refreshing way to explore the lake and enjoy its scenic beauty.

Udaipur Solar Observatory: Situated on one of the islands, the Udaipur Solar Observatory is a notable feature of Fateh Sagar Lake. Established by Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar in 1976, it is considered one of the best solar observing sites in Asia due to its clear skies and favorable geographic location.

Nehru Garden: Nehru Garden is the largest island in Fateh Sagar Lake, featuring a beautiful garden with fountains, flower beds, and trees. The garden also has a boat-shaped restaurant, offering visitors a unique dining experience amidst serene surroundings.

Saheliyon Ki Bari: Situated near Fateh Sagar Lake, Saheliyon Ki Bari, or the Garden of the Maidens, is a beautiful garden adorned with fountains, kiosks, marble elephants, and a delightful lotus pool. It was built by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies.

Lake Pichola: Another prominent lake in Udaipur, Lake Pichola is known for its stunning vistas and iconic landmarks such as the City Palace and Jag Mandir. Boat rides on Lake Pichola offer a different perspective of Udaipur’s architectural splendor.

City Palace: Overlooking Lake Pichola, the City Palace is a grand complex of palaces, courtyards, and gardens. It provides a glimpse into the royal heritage of Udaipur and offers panoramic views of the lakes and the city.

The best time to visit Fateh Sagar Lake is during the winter months, from October to March, when the weather is pleasant and ideal for outdoor activities. During this period, temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C, making it perfect for boating, walking along the promenade, and exploring the nearby attractions. The monsoon season, from July to September, also offers a unique experience as the lake is at its fullest and the surrounding landscape is lush and green. However, the summer months (April to June) can be quite hot, with temperatures soaring up to 40 °C, which might make outdoor activities less enjoyable.
