Nestled in the Kannan Devan Hills of the Western Ghats, the Eravikulam National Park is a great place to visit if you are a nature lover. Established in 1978, it is the first National Park of Kerala. The National Park is covered in grasslands and is a proud home to the highest peak of South India, Anamudi.
Eravikulam National Park is a protected area in Kerala due to the presence of rare and endangered wildlife and plant life in the Park. The National Park is divided into three different zones, namely, the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors are only allowed in the tourist area to ensure their safety as well as the safety of the wildlife. Eravikulam National Park is home to some of the most exotic animals like the Nilgiri tahr, lion-tailed macaques, red muntjac, Nilgiri marten, and many more. It is a also the abode to endemic birds such as the Nilgiri wood pigeon, Palani laughing thrush, and Nilgiri flycatcher among others.
Once every twelve years, for about two to four months, the Eravikulam National Park will be covered in Neelakurinji flowers, and look like a vibrant blue carpet. This is a unique experience and it feels like you have stepped into a floral wonderland.
