The trek to Kolukkumalai commences from Kurangani village, situated at an elevation of 3,800 feet. The journey begins with a path leading through a grassland up to a solitary pine tree, offering a resting spot before the forest trail unfolds. As hikers proceed, the trail ascends steeply, providing captivating views of the Kurangani hills and a refreshing, constant breeze.
Entering the forest, trekkers are embraced by a dense canopy, shading the path all the way to Kolukkumalai. Negotiating around forty to fifty hairpin bends, the route winds through the picturesque landscape, surrounded by pine trees and the high-altitude jungle environment. The fog-draped tea estates, accompanied by the melody of chirping birds, mark the final stretch of the trek.
Perched at 6,800 feet above sea level, Kolukkumalai unveils breathtaking vistas of the distant plains across the Tamil Nadu border.
