It is a 32 meter high statue near Diskit Monastery. It is said to be the future of Buddhism which will be taught and bring peace to humanity. Natives from the valley helped in the construction of this and the gold used in the statue was donated by the heads of other major monasteries around. The staute faces the Shyok River, overlooking the Pakistan border.
It represents 3 ideas: protection of the Diskit Village, promotion of world peace, & prevention of further war with Pakistan. The statue commands panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, providing a perfect backdrop for spiritual contemplation and reflection.
