One of the most popular destinations in Munnar, Anamudi is the highest peak in South India. With an elevation of 8842 feet, it is also known as the “Everest of South India”. Anamudi translates to “Elephant Mountain” and has earned its name due to its colossal appearance.
Anamudi is located in the southern part of the Eravikulam National Park. You can reach the peak of the Anamudi hills by trekking from the entrance of the National Park. It is an easy and pleasant trek, which takes you through the evergreen forest of the Eravikulam National Park. The Anamudi Peak offers breathtaking views of the nearby hills such as the Cardamom Hills, the Annamalai Hills, and the Palani Hills. You can see tea plantations and lush greenery for miles from the peak. It is also a great place to view the golden sunsets of the Western Ghats.
As it is situated inside the Eravikulam National Park, Anamudi Peak is an abode to various endemic wildlife like the Nilgiri tahr, Nilgiri marten, and gaurs. It is also home to Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, and many other animals.
